The Research Institute for Business and Social Processes (hereinafter the Institute) is a constituent unit of the Faculty of Economics and Management (EPF), Rezekne Academy of Technologies (RTA). In the result of reorganisation of the Scientific Institute of Regionalistics (REGI) in 2016, the scientific divisions of RTA were integrated into the faculties, thereby establishing a network of scientific divisions; the Research Centre for Business and Social Processes was established within the network. Based on an assessment of the performance of the scientific divisions done in 2018, it was concluded that the Research Centre for Business and Social Processes qualified for the status of an institute, and it was reorganised into the Institute.

The Institute has set the following goal – to strengthen and increase the current research capacity contributing to scientific research in social sciences and related interdisciplinary sciences in Latvia, Europe and the world and providing practical support in the study directions implemented by the EPF and to RTA as a whole.

At the Institute, research takes the form of systematic research by academic staff in their areas of research interest and is also a component of the study process in the relevant RTA study programme. Within the scope of research, the Institute:

  • does scientific research in social sciences and related interdisciplinary sciences;
  • commercialises research results, integrates the results in the study process and makes them applicable in the national economy;
  • contributes to the international scientific integration of human resources in the field of social science strengthening the links among entrepreneurs, the public sector and RTA;
  • involves its staff and RTA students in research projects;
  • creates an environment and preconditions for innovative research and activities;
  • cooperates with other research, industry and academic partners to do commissioned academic and industrial research on a contractual basis;
  • provides publicity for its research results through scientific periodicals, monographs and international databases;
  • holds and participates in conferences and other scientific activities.
